WHERE TO GET THE BEST PASTEIS DE NATA IN LISBON
What is Pastèis de Nata?

So, what is pasteis de nata? This tiny eggtart is Lisbon’s specialty. It’s crispy in the outside and melted inside. The ingredients include a puff pastry, egg’s yolk, heavy cream.. so you can take a break on your diet while you’re here. But i promise you it’s worth it!

Before coming to Lisbon, i did my little research where to have the best pastel de nata. So i came with a mission tasting one different pastel de nata each day. And here below is my top list :
PASTEIS DE BELEM
Pasteis de Belem, established in 1837 was the first bakery that specialize in selling the famous eggtart.
The recipe came from the monks of Jerónimos Monastery that sold their recipe to earn some money. To the present day, pasteis de belem is still operating and the queue can be long.
Although this is not my favorite, it’s a must try. When arriving, we ordered a couple of Pastéis de Nata to take home and some croquetas before finding a table and re order the same to eat on place.
Where?
Pastéis de Belem
Rua de Belem 84-92 Lisbon
open everyday from 8am to 11pm.
MANTEIGARIA
This one is my favorite. All Pastéis de Nata is good and gourmand but somehow, after tasting severals you got to have a preference.
Just like macaroons, all of them are sweet and beautiful but i have that one address that i’d return whenever i want one.
Manteigaria has a perfect crust and the cream has a perfect texture - not too melted, not too cooked with the right amount of sweet. It’s even has a hint of almond. The open kitchen put up a show how they bake each pastéis. Coming back to Paris, i can still smell the fresh baked eggtarts.

Apparently, this address has captured the heart of TIME OUT Lisbon as well. When visiting the TIME OUT market, you can find their booth there. Even in the Louis Vuitton guide to Lisbon, they admitted how Manteigaria successfully put the bar after the famous Pasteis de Belem.
Where?
Manteigaria
Rua do Loreto 2 (Chiado)
Monday to Sunday 8am to 12am
NATA LX
I came across this boutique completely by hasard. We were around the neighborhood looking for the historical store of Lisbon's tinned fish. Just accross the mentionned shop, we were struck by the beauty of the azuléjos and the minimalist look of the store.
After taking a couple pictures of the azulejos, we decided to give it a try and this is probably the most gourmand of all three.
The cream is super melted as if it's half cooked and very rich and creamy (good bye diet see you never) that one is enough to my taste.
Where?
Nata Lx Fabrico Artesanal,
Rua dos Bacalhoeiros 113 Lisbon,
Tuesday - Sunday 9.30 am - 11pm
